Patient misconceptions

Many patients do not understand the risk factors for high blood pressure. In fact, a recent survey showed1:

  • 81% are unaware that males are at higher risk
  • 64% don't know that age is a risk factor
  • 49% are unaware that obesity puts people at risk
  • 54% mistakenly identify stress as a risk factor

Even if they have been diagnosed with prehypertension, they often do not know what this means.
